    It was only in early December when the K family decided they wanted a winter getaway that would bring together this family of young adults…and with them knowing they wanted to book to Cuba, we quickly got them booked into the newly branded Memories Azul Beach Resort in Cayo Santa Clara, Cuba.

    Cuba Family Vacation - Cayo Santa Clara

    A little worried that they might get under each others’ skin after spending a week together…they did really well once they realized that each couple could do their own thing and yet easily meet up on this intimate resort for meals or beach or touring time.

    What is your favorite memory of this family trip?
    {FK : Jan 2012} “Spending time with my family at the beach was amazing. The water was clear turquoise and the sand was just beautiful”

    What comments do you have about Jolyn’s services in helping put this Cuba family vacation together?
    {FK : Jan 2012} “Jolyn was amazing. We gave her such short notice and it was during the holidays and she managed to get it all done and answer my million questions lol. She was a pleasure to deal with and I will definitely contact her on my next vacation! Thanks again.”

    When traveling, one of my favorite things to do, is to try the local food – something different I can’t find at home. Afterall, if you’re going to travel great distances to see a destination – you might as well explore all that the destination has to offer in regards to food.

    One of my favorite new fruits discovered was the Pomerac in Jamaica – shaped like a pear, skin and inside is the texture of a plum, but tastes like an apple. Sooooo yummy!

    Sometimes it’s just about finding food that a destination is known for – and getting to truly enjoy the destination experience. I love sharing with clients some of the specialties they just have to try in the destination they are visiting.

    Arriving at Montego Bay Sangster International Airport is an enjoyable experience.

    When you first arrive, you’ll follow the vast hallways through to Customs – you’ll be given your customs form during your flight and for a speedy passage, be sure to have it completed in full.

    Montego Bay Sangster Airport

    { Montego Bay Sangster International Airport | March 2011 }

    Once you obtain your luggage from the carousel, according to your customs form, you’ll go to the red line or green line.

    Now, a tip for you – I had marked off I was carrying pharmaceuticals (because I carry OTC medications while I travel) which should have meant I go to the red line. But a Jamaican official told me to write in the declaration box that medications were for personal use, and it allowed me to go through the green line. Hopefully that speeds up your customs experience.

    The customs officer will give you a departure certificate (be sure to keep in a safe place while you travel) as this certificate is mandatory for your departure from the island.

    MBJ Airport Montego Bay

    { Sandals & Beaches VIP Airport Lounge | Montego Bay Airport | March 2011 }

    You’ll then be in the main arrival lobby at Montego Bay – if you are a guest of Breezes, Hedonism, Superfun, Sandals, Beaches, Couples, or Sunset Grand – you’ll have a VIP lounge where you’ll be greeted, receive refreshments and obtain your hotel transfer instructions from.

    Otherwise, you’ll exit out the main entrance (between Breezes and Couples VIP lounges) where an abundance of taxis and buses await (and a Margaritaville Mini is there if you need a Red Stipe Beer or some munchies after your long flight).

    Here’s another handy Jamaica travel tip – have sturdy luggage!! The main vans/buses load luggage through the side windows. My cheap luggage (because my other set got destroyed on my last trip) had it’s frame badly bent getting loaded like this through my week stay.

    When it’s time to depart – you’ll find a Wendy’s, lots of shopping, quite a few restaurants and a Tortuga if you need to stock up on Rum Cakes for gifts on your way home. Lots of options for buying snacks and munchies for your flight home.

    Anyhow, arriving at the Sangster Airport is easy and the next hardest decision for you to make is to hit either the beach or the pool!! Enjoy your Jamaican holiday!

    Meet Marshall – in his spare time he carves Gourds at Rio Bueno…and I was happy to purchase one of his creations on my recent Jamaica journey.

    I love making purchases that aren’t mass produced when I travel – and I don’t mind paying more when I know it’s really going to the true artist and helping their family. Keep that in mind when you next purchase souvenirs on your next travel adventure.
